We’re not going to lie about our sudden disappearance but we’ve been both busy and lazy since the last time we’ve released our latest issue. Not much have happened during the time we’re away from DesignSutra. Well its because we are all now working full-time to support ourselves. It’s sad that all these times we can’t continue making our lovely magazine. But fret not, this is not a goodbye or farewell. It’s just that we’re on a long break at the moment and will be resuming once we all have an inspiration going. Come to think of it, we’ve already got a few topics in mind for our next issue but we’re keeping it a secret until then. So please bear with us on this hiatus period. We’ll be back!
Design Society Conference 2010
Today, we went to attend a conference hosted by the Design Society that was held at the National Library, Singapore. It aims to bring the design scene here in Singapore to a new level, by conducting workshops, lectures, collaborations and networking between local designers, whether they are famous or just fresh out of college. It’s another big step in the design industry that would bring designers to become more appreciated and respected.
For us, the conference was a chance to get to know other designers through listening and understanding what their perception of design is. It was quite interesting to see the different approach of what the designers have to offer. Some of the talks were more on the serious and learning process while some are showcasing progress and portfolio works of their design studios. Overall it’s good start and we’ll definitely look forward for more events like these!
Oh did I mention we also got a copy of their very first journal?

J-Star – Design Film Festival
We went to catch J-Star, one of the films showing at the Design Film Festival, right here in Singapore. The film is a preview of new and emerging artist/designers from Japan. The overall film we think is an inspiration for us all and it gave an insight of Japanese culture and approach in their design, especially in motion graphics and shorts.
Some of it are funny, while some are serious and some of them are just random that we didn’t get it at first glance. Overall it was a good experience and we can’t wait to watch our next one, Craftwork. Tickets are still available to be purchased for the upcoming shows, by clicking here
For a more detailed insight and review into the films do stay tuned for our next issue!
